Tips Galore

I realized just the other day that it had been literally months since I did any Coffee Clutching with you. So here goes these are some of my favorite tips from Real Simple the Magazine over the last few months along with a few of my own.

Pizza Preserver

Help retain the crispy bottom of last night’s pie by quickly microwaving leftover slices on a piece of parchment.

Easy Rolling

Another tip for fresh pizza dough is to sandwich the dough in-between two pieces of parchment paper and then roll it out. Once you have reached desired size just remove one side of parchment paper and let pizza cook on the other. Clean up is a breeze with this tip.

Honey Cup

Place a jar in the middle of a large square of parchment (roughly double the length of the jar). Then gather the parchment up around the jar and secure with a rubber band, leaving some overhang. When the gooey honey drips down the side, it will stick to the paper, not the cabinet shelf.

Protect Against Heat With An Oven Mitt

When you don’t have time to let your styling tool cool (say, you’re headed for the airport or going straight to work from the gym), stash it in a heat-resistant mitt before packing it up

Jewelry Polish

Out of the actual thing? Brighten tarnished baubles and precious metals by smearing them with a glob of nongel toothpaste. Gently buff with a soft cloth until they shine. I learned this one from my Mom.

Shoe Shine

Return white or light-colored kicks to their fresh-out-of-the-box state by erasing scuff marks with a soft toothbrush and a white nongel paste. Remove excess with a damp cloth

Vanilla Extract As Paint Odor-Masker

Disguise unpleasant fumes with this sweet-smelling pantry staple. Stir in a few drops of pure extract for each gallon of (nonwhite) paint

Heating Pad

To soothe an achy neck or back, fill a sock with rice and a few drops of a relaxing essential oil, like lavender. Tie with ribbon; microwave for one minute.

Draft Dodger

Fill a sock with beans or even old dish towels and place in front of a drafty window or door.
