PLEASE MAKE MY LIFE MORE SIMPLE!

So, as you may be able to figure out by now I am on a quest to find ways to make my life a little easier and more organized. By all means I am no expert just a woman on a mission to enjoy my life and family more. Here are some of my favorites from Real Simple May 2010 issue.

RICE AS CELLPHONE DRYER- So your phone fell into the sink. Dry any visible droplets, pop out the battery , and stick both the phone and the battery in a bowl of rice overnight. The rice will soak up most of the remaining water.

FREEZE (AND RETRIEVE) GROUND MEAT- I THINK THIS IS A FANTASTIC WAY TO SAVE MONEY ON MEAT. MOST GROCERY STORES HAVE AROUND A 5-10 LB PACKAGE OF GROUND BEEF YOU CAN BUY. Fill a zippered (gallon) plastic bag with raw meat, press it flat, and seal. Score the meat into equal sections by pressing a chopstick over the bag, tic-tac-toe style, then freeze the grid flat. The next time you need ground beef, simply break off enough for your recipe.

THE FASTEST WAY TO TELL IF EGGS ARE FRESH- THIS IS A TIP MY FATHER ORIGINALLY TAUGHT ME YEARS AGO, BUT WHEN THE TIME COMES TO CHECK IT I PAUSE AND THINK " WHAT IS IT SUPPOSED TO DO AGAIN"? I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE FRESHER COURSE FOR US ALL. Place egg gently in a water filled bowl or glass cup. If the egg sinks to the bottom and lies on it's side, it's fresh. If it sinks and stands large-end up,get crackin' in a few days, since it's on the verge of going bad. If it floats, toss it.

ALLERGY SEASON IS HERE AGAIN SO WHATCHA GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?- Get a new furnace filter that's what! This is a great way to stop not all but many allergens from even coming in your home. How it works : Installing a particle - catching furnace filter such as 3M Filtrete in your home with forced-air systems reduce exposure to a range of triggers , including dust, pollen , and mold. You can find a new filter at any major home improvement or super store. They can cost anywhere from $7-20. An important thing to know is that you should change the filter every 3 months ( my Dad says 1-3 months in summer) If you do this it will not only save you on sneezes and tissues ,but also plenty money on your electric bill. Make sure to leave the system's fans on to keep clean air circulating.
